Looks like this is a season of comedy movies and here comes another addition ‘Sonna Puriyathu’. Thankfully unlike the recent comedy movies, Sonna Puriyathu is at least having a story line to its credit. Shiva plays a role of a Tamil dubbing artist for Hollywood movies, his funny introduction with Hindi song itself shows that the actor’s biggest strength is his dialogue delivery and body language. His trademark dialogue delivery evokes laughter, but the audiences have seen it many times and it appears to be stereotypical. Coming to the story line Shiva don’t want to marry and he couldn’t tell the exact reason for that (That’s why the title Sonna Puriyathu?) but his mom arrange him a marriage with Vasundra , When Shiva is planning a conspiracy to stop the marriage Vasundra is also having similar idea and the marriage was eventually stopped. After that Vasundra and Shiva develops a love , what happens next forms the crux of the story.
Performance wise other than Shiva Vasundra did a neat job and her acting is good. Sam Anderson’s cameo , Manobala,Meera Krishnan and Shankar also did their part well. Yatish Mahadev’s songs are okay while BGM is good. Editing is adequate while Cinematography by Saravanan is slick and clear. Krishnan Jayaraj’s one liner are enjoyable at parts but many portions falls flat and the director lost his grip in the second half with an abrupt climax. Had he worked more on the second half of the film it would have been a decent romantic comedy. Overall Shiva’s fans might enjoy this ride as his comic one liners are good. For other’s it’s a pretty average entertainer, watch it if you like Shiva!.
